Man who stole shark says it 'needed help'

accreditation

A man who removed a shark from an aquarium in Texas, America, says he did it because “it needed help”. According to the BBC, Anthony Shannon, one of a group of three people who snatched the 40cm-long horn shark from San Antonio Aquarium in Leon Valley, says he’s an activist but concedes what he did was wrong.

“As an activist I have a mission. It’s not a mission to steal for profit, it’s a mission just to give the shark better health.”

Anthony and his accomplices were caught on surveillance camera smuggling the shark out by disguising it as a child and pushing it out in a pram. The grey horn shark, called Miss Helen, was returned safely to the aquarium on Monday night, two days after the theft. Bexar county police confirmed the 38-year-old was charged with felony theft.
