A woman who miraculously gave birth to a baby boy while in a coma has died, almost four years after waking up.
The family of Sharista Giles (23), from Texas in America, announced her death on Facebook, People reports.
“This saddens my heart to say but we all know she’s no longer suffering,” her family posted on social media.
“Sharista Giles gained her wings this morning. She has suffered for 3 1/2 years, now she’s rejoicing with our Heavenly Father.”
In 2014 Sharista, then three months pregnant with her son Leighton, was involved in a serious accident while driving home from a concert in Nashville, Tennessee, Fox News reported. She suffered traumatic brain injuries which left her in a coma.
But despite her being in a coma doctors miraculously managed to deliver baby Leighton, who recently turned three. He was born prematurely and weighed just 0,9kg.
A few months after the birth Sharista surprised family members when she opened her eyes. The blonde beauty slowly started regaining mobility in her hands and started speaking again.
But things took a turn for the worse when she was diagnosed with double pneumonia recently. Her family took to Facebook to ask friends and family to pray for her.
“Hello everyone, we all are still praying as you all are. There is really no change since the last post,” the post read. “I really truly wish I could say there is. If y’all don’t mind please continue to pray! I know God works miracles every day!
“Sharista is a strong young lady and it’s been over three years since the accident. We would love to see her beautiful eyes and smile sparkle again!
“And most of all Leighton needs his mommy and she needs him! God bless to all.”
Tragically, Sharista died on 21 May. Her family have yet to make funeral arrangements.
