Firefighters are used to rescuing people and animals from sticky and often perilous situations – often going beyond the call of duty to ensure their safety.
But one London firefighter got an earful for trying to do just that.
After Jessie, an Edmonton-based parrot spent three days on top of a roof – her owners frantically called the London Fire Brigade fearing the turquoise-and-yellow bird may have been hurt and unable to fly, reports Mirror.
After one of the owners suggested the firefighter say “I love you” in an attempt to coax her down – the unassuming rescuer tried just that, but instead of the parrot walking towards him, the foul-mouthed macaw simply yelled “f**k you”.
Watch manager, Chris Swallow said, "Jessie had been on the same roof for three days and there were concerns she may be injured which is why she hadn't come down.
"Our crew manager was the volunteer who went up the ladder to try and bring Jessie down.
"We were told that to bond with the parrot, you have to tell her 'I love you', which is exactly what the crew manager did.
"While Jessie responded 'I love you' back, we then discovered that she had a bit of a foul mouth and kept swearing, much to our amusement.
After being told that Jessie and her owner speak Turkish and Greek as well, the crew tried coaxing her to come down saying “come” in both those languages, reports The Sun.
The London Fire Brigade has urged owners to call the RSPCA first before calling emergency services when an animal is in distress, after receiving a large number of call-outs for pet distresses, reports The Telegraph.
