A young couple posing for a video in front of railway tracks were blown off their feet when a speeding freight train passed just metres behind them.

According to local media, the couple were recording “touching” videos by the railway line in Guangdong province in southeast China to earn likes on social media.

In the dramatic footage, the pair, who haven’t been named and were being filmed by a friend, are seen standing in front of the tracks when the train approaches behind them.

The couple is sent crashing to the ground by a gust of air as the train driver sounds his horn to warn them away.

Local media reported that the woman injured her head and legs in the incident, while the man hurt his back.

The police took them to Xingning Third People's Hospital for treatment.

Reports say the driver had immediately braked when he spotted people near the tracks.

Under Chinese railway safety laws, it’s illegal to walk along or stand on railway tracks.

The couple and their friend reportedly face a 200RMB (about R425) fine.
