Teen dies after being punched by stranger on train

An Australian teen has died as a result of injuries sustained when he was punched in the face by a stranger 10 months ago on a train while on his way home from a night out.

Laoa Faafua (19), from Perth, Australia, had been in intensive care for months after the incident in January, Perth Now reports.

He died on Sunday 11 November after suffering bleeding on his brain.

His brother, Mose Faafua, told local media the family is heartbroken.

“From day one to his last breath, he was still fighting,” he said. “I think he just had enough. He’s having a rest now . . . We’re going to miss him, but we’ll never forget him.”

A 19-year-old was arrested in connection with the incident and has pleaded guilty to a charge of grievous bodily harm. He’s expected to be sentenced in a few weeks, News.com reports.

Mose said his family want the charge to be upgraded. “He can just walk around and eat and drink and do what he wants to do while my brother was suffering.”

Before his death Laoa was making small improvements, including speaking and moving his fingers, Daily Mail reports.

Mose thanked Laoa’s rugby club for paying for his brother’s medical bills.
