The boy behind 2016’s most popular meme

accreditation

Five-year-old Jake Amo took social media by storm last year when artist Solomon Adufah shared an image of the little boy that turned into meme for all kinds of things.

According to Africa Check, Solomon’s photographer friend Carlos Cortes had taken a picture of the little lad during Solomon’s visit to teach creative studies and art at Jake’s Ghanaian school in August 2015.

The cute snap of the then-four-year-old at his desk went viral and turned Jake into an internet sensation last year.

In July, Solomon returned to Ghana and caught up with Jake.

“He was on school vacation and visiting family during my short stay but I was able to visit them to check up on him,” he told Africa Check.

Jake is also enrolled in an extracurricular programme at his school to help him with English, maths and drawing.

“The Ghana education services in the eastern region district will continue to monitor his progress in working relationship with Homeland Africa and his family,” said Solomon, who is originally from Ghana.

Jake is from a small village called Asempanaye, Koforidua in the eastern region of Ghana.
