A university caretaker has been treated to a luxurious holiday after students raised money so he could visit family for the first time in a decade.
Students from the University of Bristol crowdfunded the week-long trip to Jamaica as a gift for their beloved cleaner, Herman Gordon, and his wife Denise.
According to Independent UK, it was revealed in a post made by one of the students they started the fundraising page because they wanted to reward Herman for always being there for them.
“All year round, this man works hours on end to provide us with a clean working space in which to study. But most importantly, his undying positive energy and chit-chat has managed to turn many students’ dark days into positive ones filled with joy.
Whether you’re just feeling down and out or stressed out due to exams, Herman is always there to speak to you,” it read.
“This legend proves that happiness isn’t about what you own, what job you have or how much money you’ve got, but about appreciating what you currently have in life.”
Herman, who’s worked at the university as part of the cleaning staff for 12 years, was brought to tears when he learned that 230 students raised £1,500 (R26 250) in July, reports BBC.
The moment he was given the news was caught on camera. Herman can be seen breaking into tears as he’s told about the trip.
The couple stayed at the luxurious five-star Sandals resort in Montego Bay, where they were treated to a massage and candle-lit dinner before spending time with family in Kingston.
They shared pictures of themselves relaxing in dressing gowns and enjoying sunset cocktails.
