WATCH: How an astronaut prepares for six months in space

On 20 December 2018 Canadian astronaut David Saint-Jacques and his crew blast off on a six-month mission aboard the International Space Station.

After a year of theory training at Star City in Moscow and another year practising in the simulator, he has the technical knowledge of the Soyuz rocket that will carry them into space.

The mental preparation of being away from home and family for such a long period is his focus as the time draws near.
