The shipwreck, usually only barely visible, came in full sight as a result of strong winds and partial erosion of the beach.
Vincent Schmitt, a tourist guide, says that the boat was just over 49m long, and could possibly weigh 540 tonnes.
"It's a mine-laying ship, and strayed a little too close to the shore," he said.
