The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) has lambasted the ruling by the KwaZulu-Natal High Court, which dismissed an application to interdict Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT) that suspended the licence for mini-pit operators.

The labour union, along with business rescue practitioners of Optimum Coal Mine, approached the high court to urgently seek it to issue a ruling, which would set aside the decision by the terminal to suspend its use, leaving the mine unable to export coal.
