The Zimbabwe general elections, scheduled for August 23, are now occupying centre-stage in our mainstream news, dwarfed only by Russia’s President Putin’s U-turn, when he ultimately said "nyet"  to the invite to attend the BRICS summit in Johannesburg.

As is the norm, the pre-election hysteria in Zimbabwe has spread like wild fire especially consuming ourselves down here in South Africa, who are tied with the umbilical cord to our northern neighbour. Thus far the elections have been dominating both on mainstream and social media alike for weeks. Political analysts notwithstanding, it’s always easy to predict the end result of the Zimbabwe elections, since the days of erstwhile president Robert Mugabe.
