Earlier last month, three-year-old Langalam Viki drowned in a pit toilet at the Glen Grey Primary School in the Eastern Cape.

Unfortunately, but unsurprisingly, given that there are national elections on the horizon, the public discourse surrounding this tragic death of a young child risks becoming overly politicised.
