KING Misuzulu kaZwelithini paid lobola for his third wife, Masesi Myeni on Sunday, 5 May.

The lobola ceremony, in which 16 cows were paid, was held at Masesi's home in Makhonyeni Village in Jozini north of KZN where the King was in attendance accompanied by Zulu monarch traditional Prime Minister Rev Thulasizwe Buthelezi and Zulu royal house members.

King Misuzulu announced that his third wife, Queen Masesi Myeni (41), would be the queen of the eMachobeni royal palace.

The eMachobeni royal palace was built by Misuzulu's father, the late King Zwelithini a long time ago in Ngwavuma, north of KZN. It was used for the pre-Reed Dance Festival and the Marula Festival but didn't have a queen allocated to it.

When King Misuzulu's late mother, Queen Mantfombi Dlamini was still alive, she was the one who took care of the eMachobeni royal palace while she was the queen of KwaKhangelamankengane royal palace in Nongoma.

"I thank the Myeni family for working with the Zulu royal house. It was difficult to arrange this ceremony.

"But we thank God and the Zulu royal senior members, and I thank the Myeni ancestors because we finally agreed that we will be together," he said.

King Misuzulu said amakhosi from Umkhanyakude District and the people of Jozini will now report directly to eMachobeni when they have matters that need the royal house rather than go to other royal palaces like KwaKhangelamankengane.

Zulu monarch traditional prime minister Rev Thulasizwe Buthelezi said the Zulu royal family and the Myeni family had agreed that from Sunday, 5 May after the ilobolo finalisation, Masesi Myeni was the official royal queen.

In 2021, when King Misuzulu was about to ascend the Zulu throne, he took Queen Ntokozo Mayisela, who is a qualified musician from Newcastle in KZN, as his first wife.

He also took his second wife, Queen Nozizwe Mulela, the managing director of the state-owned eSwatini Bank.

King Misuzulu is following in his father's footstep who had six wives, Queen Sibongile Dlamini, Queen Buhle Mathe, Queen Mantfombi Dlamini (King Misuzulu's mother), Queen Jayne Ndlovu, Queen Nompumelelo Mchiza and Queen Zola Mafu.
