The best bank, long-term insurer, short-term insurer, medical scheme were also announced.

Each award category has a wide-ranging set of judgment criteria. Companies will be recognised for everything from client service to good corporate citizenship, strategic leadership, client service and transparency.

The winners were selected based on different factors including:

  • a survey of more than 4 000 people regarding their satisfaction in a range of areas;
  • an assessment by News24 of companies' products, platforms, annual reports and CSI initiatives; and
  • an evaluation by our team of financial reporters, as well as fund managers and analysts, of companies' strategy, business performance and the shareholder value created.

The assessments were then audited in detail by an actuarial consultant.

Welcoming the guests, News24 managing editor Mpho Raborife said:

"Doing business in South Africa has always been a rollercoaster. But at the moment it feels like the rollercoaster itself is on fire, the seatbelts aren't working, a Transnet locomotive may or may not be on the same track and you are bound to get stuck upside down due to load shedding ...

"We wanted to recognise companies and CEOs who are doing excellent work in building their businesses, while also going above and beyond in innovation, strategic leadership, client service, transparency and building a better SA."
