Eskom reported its interim results for the six months to end-September on Wednesday, showing that plant performance has continued to decline and giving the lie to claims by the government that it "has turned the corner".
The results show that Eskom remains on the road downhill in almost every regard.
Cabinet ministers such as Kgosientsho Ramokgopa have made much of the brief moments in which Eskom's energy availability factor (EAF) – the percentage of the plant available to deliver energy – has breached 60% over the past year. But Eskom's reporting shows EAF from April to September at 55.3%, a deterioration compared to the same period last year, when EAF averaged 58.66%.
