This week it will be determined if the deadlocked public service wage talks will further disintegrate into an 800 000-strong industrial action or if the government will get its way as four unions are expected to canvas their membership to gauge their appetite to go on strike.
The National Education, Health, and Allied Workers Union (Nehawu), the Police, Prisons and Civil Rights Union (Popcru), the Democratic Nursing Organisation of SA (Denosa), and the Health and Other Services Personnel Trade Union of SA (Hospersa) are set to hold a briefing on Monday.
The four unions, who were given certificates of non-resolution at the Public Service Co-ordinating Bargaining Council (PSCBC), are expected to update South Africa on their next course of action, as the deadlock in the public wage talks remains.
