So far, this summer's load shedding has been better than Eskom expected thanks to an improvement in unplanned outages, said Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa at a briefing on Tuesday.
Eskom expected average unplanned outages of 14 500MW, but improved grid performance and maintenance have meant that this has averaged less than 14 100MW in the past two weeks, reaching 12 700MW on Tuesday. The only time unplanned outages exceeded targets was on 16 January, when it reached above 15 169MW.
