Former Kaizer Chiefs fullback Peter Matshitse blames the Soweto giants' misfortunes in the 2023/24 season on not having a stronger technical team.

Amakhosi need nothing less than a win in their do-or-die last league encounter against already-relegated Cape Town Spurs down in Cape Town on Saturday, failing which they might kiss next season's MTN8 goodbye.

"If we are struggling to qualify for a Top Eight [spot], then it makes one wonder if we will ever qualify for CAF Champions League again," Matshitse bemoans, speaking to KickOff. com.

"It's unlike Kaizer Chiefs to fight for the Top Eight, it's been always a given. Given their current performance, we cannot confirm if Chiefs will be playing in the MTN8 next season. At the moment, you can't trust them.

"We will see what happens in their last game, but I won't bet on them. I don't want my heart to get hurt," adds the left footer.

Matshitse then revealed what he thinks is behind the spate of poor results that has seen the club finish a ninth season without a trophy added to the cabinet.

"The planning is what has cost them a lot this season. They failed to acquire relevant people for some of the jobs at the club. Nothing beats planning and vision in this game.

"According to me, they have a very weak technical team Kaizer Chiefs. We've even seen some of the players shouting at the coach. All that shows there is no order.

"I don't think the people who are in that technical staff are strong enough. You wouldn't see us doing such things under Ted Dumitru and Muhsin Ertugral.

"Our coaches had order, direction and vision. That's the type of coach we expect at Chiefs. To be honest, Cavin Johnson has been given enough chance, I don't think there is anything new he will do.

"Cape Town Spurs, although they are already relegated, their players will be fighting for contracts. They want to be noticed by other clubs.

"I think prayer is the only thing that can save Kaizer Chiefs from this embarrassment. It's no longer in our hands. This is a disgrace, you know.

"Kaizer Chiefs has never been in such a slump since they were established, and nobody can accuse them of not having quality players, there's a lot of quality players at Chiefs."
