Budget Insurance recently conducted research that suggests that music can affect driving behaviour, with certain genres such as Hip hop and Maskandi believed to likely cause accidents on the road, while R&B and Gospel fall on the safer side for drivers.

To draw this conclusion, the insurance company used Spotify's wrapped data for 2023, analysing the most popular songs and album tracks from South Africa's Top Tracks 2023 and Top Artists 2023.

It then scored the songs against four categories, including beats per minute, energy, danceability and loudness, with each category assigned a distraction score from 0 to 100.
