In an effort to celebrate Freedom Day, Masincedane Community Service and various community organisations, including the Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness, will host the first ever ‘Sport 4 Freedom Tournament’, starting tomorrow (19 April until Sunday 28 April).
The contest will be at Lwandle Sports Complex.
Marcia Torres, the project manager, said they aim to uplift the youth in the area through sporting activities and healthy living. “The tournament comprises u-18 soccer, u-19 rugby and u-18 netball. There are 24 teams for soccer, 10 teams for netball and four rugby teams. The final matches will be played on Sunday 28 April. Live music, prizes, medals and food stalls will contribute to creating a weekend that celebrates sport and community involvement across the Helderberg area,” said Torres.
She said there will also be health screenings where the community health workers will engage with the community on the healthcare services rendered by Masincedane Community Service.
