Parel Vallei High School learner Stephan Malan clinched gold at the Athletics South Africa National Combined Events Championships in KwaZulu-Natal on Thursday 18 April. Stephan took the lead in the five-item event from the start, winning the 100m hurdles in a new personal best of 15.19s. He then raked up first place in high jump (1,65 m), shotput (11,31 m; personal best) and long jump 5,24m, and finished the day off with an excellent second place in the 1 000 m, which he completed in a stellar time of 3:19.88 – also a new personal best.
