Luke van der Merwe, a learner at Paul Roos Gymnasium, represented the Western Cape at the South African National Schools’ Athletics Championships at the Dal Josaphat Stadium in Paarl at the beginning of April. Luke won the gold medal in the under-19 boys’ high-jump event and was crowned the South African champion.
