Routine patrols and stop-and-search operations yielded huge results when members of the Overberg police task team and flying squad confiscated two firearms, ammunition and a large amount of drugs.
Sergeant Abigail Naidoo, the spokesperson for police in the Overberg District, reported police officers also conducted searches for any illegal items at various premises in Zwelihle.
“During the patrols on Saturday 20 April,” said Naidoo, “they searched a man who was found in possession of ammunition. While he was being interviewed the suspect provided the police officers with an address where firearms were allegedly being stored. The premises were searched and two firearms, ammunition and 165 Mandrax tablets were seized.”
The seized items include a silver .38 Special Taurus revolver and an AK SA ARMS AK17 9 mm pistol, one magazine with five rounds of ammunition and 15 9 mm rounds.
“Two suspects were arrested and will appear in the Hermanus Magistrates’ Court on Monday (22 April),” Naidoo said.
Major General Miriam Mochologi, the Overberg District Police Commissioner, commended the officers for their vigilance and dedication.
