WALTER Sisulu University Butterworth FC will participate in the Hollywoodbets Regional League promotion play-offs, which are expected to be staged soon.

This follows after WSU Butterworth FC wrapped up their 2023/2024 season in the SAFA Amathole Men’s Regional League in Mnquma on top of log standings, on 37 points after 14 games.

This past weekend, on Saturday afternoon, WSU Butterworth FC defeated the Centane team Musketeers FC by 1–0 at WSU Bika Campus sports ground, to wrap up their season in style.

During the season the university team registered 12 victories, one draw, and suffered one defeat.

With those results they finished their league campaign on top of the log summit, followed by Ngqamakhwe City FC with 24 points.

Musketeers FC finished the season sitting in third place, with 21 points.

For winning the SAFA Amathole Men’s Regional League, Mnquma Stream, the university team will have an opportunity to compete in a regional league promotion play-off event which is expected to be played very soon.

For now the venue and date are unconfirmed.

WSU Butterworth FC is expected to compete with other teams that have won their regional league streams in the incoming promotion play-offs, and the two teams which perform well during the event will be promoted to the ABC Motsepe League division.

Football supporters around Mnquma will be hoping that the university team will perform well during playoffs and get promotion, so that Butterworth, Centane and Ngqamakhwe have a team to represent them in ABC Motsepe League next season.

The last time the Mnquma area had a team in ABC Motsepe League, was Butterworth FC seven years ago, and now is the chance to finally have another one in this division.
