Mama Mirriam Toni shows off her hard work.
Mama Mirriam Toni shows off her hard work.

Clover Mama Afrika is a sustainable Corporate Social Investment project that has been in existence since 2001. Over the years it has hosted 440 training sessions with more than 2 313 beneficiaries.

Teaching and guiding strong females in communities all over the country, building their skills and sustaining and improving their own community projects, lie at the project’s heart.

Only the most committed are enrolled, and these include women looking after orphans, the elderly and those suffering from HIV/Aids.

Mama Mirriam Toni, from Mbekweni, Paarl, started the Ncedisizwe Centre in the early 1990s to provide young boys and girls who had been abused, abandoned and, in some cases, left for dead on the street a home. She was determined to change the narrative of these little lives and teach the value of a loving, stable home.

Toni has dedicated her life to caring for orphans and vulnerable children, providing them with counselling, meals and a variety of activities to keep them off the streets, including her own soccer team, the All Stars.

Her compassion towards her community doesn’t stop there. Toni also started a catering project with her sister, which provides employment to 28 members and opened a hair salon, sewing centre and bakery. She has a passion for sharing all her knowledge with others, transferring her skills, so they can improve their circumstances and become self-sufficient.

Recently, Toni did a lot of sewing at her centre, putting all her learnt skills from attending various Clover Mama Afrika training courses to good use. There were many functions to attend in her community, and with a house full of children she had to sew clothing for everyone, making sure everyone had something beautiful to wear that would make them feel good!

Everyone who received one was very proud of their new dress and wore it with pride.

“Out of nothing there can always come something, and you just have to create it” is Toni’s motto.
