The Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit in Gqeberha are seeking the community’s assistance in tracing a suspect wanted in connection with an alleged rape that took place during the morning of Tuesday, July 25, at the beachfront in Summerstrand.
According to police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, it is alleged that at approximately 11:30, the complainant (20) was at the beach opposite the student accommodation in Marine Drive, Summerstrand.
Janse Van Rensburg said that the complainant(20) was alone at the time and was approached by an unknown man armed with a panga, who robbed her of her cell phone and raped her.
"The suspect fled on foot after he was distracted by a passerby. "The victim opened a case of rape at SAPS Humewood," said Janse Van Rensburg.
"An identikit of the suspect was compiled, and he is approximately 1,7m tall and is between the ages of 25 and 30 years old.
"The suspect, as per the attached identikit, was wearing black trousers and a red jacket," she added.
