A businessman owner in North End, Gqbeherha was safely reunited with his family on April 10, after being abducted on April 5.
The Hawks spokesperson, Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, confirmed that Ronny Henry (31), was kidnapped around 09:00 on April 5, two months after his mother who jointly operates the North End-based business alongside her son, was also abducted.
Mgolodela said that the mother managed to escape unharmed.
She further said that Henry was released yesterday, April 10, at midnight in Kariega.
"This is the second incident in the family," she stated.
Kyran Blaauw, reporter for Netwerk24, reported earlier this week that the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro, Mthatha and East London are regarded as hotspots for kidnappings in the province.
Mgolodela spoke with Netwerk24 after a spate of kidnappings that the Eastern Cape has been suffering from recently.
According to the Netwerk24 report, the Hawks’ goal is to never pay any money to kidnappers, as they use the money to finance their criminal lifestyle.
Mgolodela warns that paying ransoms also encourages further kidnappings.
