A joint operation from the Gqeberha K9 unit, SAPS Kabega Park and a private security company has resulted in the capture and arrest of two suspects as well as the recovery of a hijacked truck on Monday, April 8.
According to Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, “It is alleged that at about 06:20, the truck was travelling on the N2 freeway from Coega towards St Francis Bay, when just after the second turn off to Jeffreys Bay, a charcoal coloured Chevrolet utility vehicle swerved in front of the truck.”
"The driver was pointed with firearms and instructed to pull over.
“The driver and his passenger were forced into the bakkie and they were dropped off in New Brighton where they reported the incident to police,” she added.
It is believed that around 09:30, Gqeberha K9 members, SAPS Kabega Park and a private security company followed up the receipt of an alleged hijacking and the truck was found at the off ramp of Stanford Road.
Two suspects aged 27 and 39 years old were inside the truck.
Janse Van Rensburg confirmed that “a signal jammer was found inside the truck and all the stock containing dairy products valued at about R500 000 were recovered.”
“The suspects are detained on a charge of truck hijacking and are expected to appear in the Humansdorp magistrate court soon.”
