The KallaManie Benefit Foundation will present its first annual golf day at Wedgewood Gold Club on May 1, in honour of the life and work of educationist and community builder, Manie “Kalla” Daniels.

An avid golfer in his own right, who obtained various accolades and stripes in Eastern Province colours over decades of golfing, tragically passed on 23, 2023.

The upgrade of the John Walton Secondary School study centre is the 2024 beneficiary for the KallaManie Benefit Foundation.

Currently it doubles up as their matric exam venue. The Foundation aims to contribute to the addition of a bathroom, kitchen and sleeping quarters to the venue, as well as insulate and provide a safe clean and warm environment in which learners can study.

At the time of going to print, a few slots were still available to participate in the golf day.

Individual entries cost R400 per golfer and there are various sponsored 4-balls options available for corporates. More than 140 golfers, from as far as Gauteng and Western Cape, have already confirmed their participation.

Among the golfers that will be teeing off is professional golfer Keenan Davidse.

Davidse says travelling from Cape Town to Gqeberha for the golf day is a small feat, in comparison to the work Daniels did.

“It doesn’t matter how hard the task is, he was always willing to help. He was special to everyone; the love and the support for not just his kids and his wife, but for golfers of colour. For me, he is a proper role model and if ever someone asks me describe the word father, I talk about him”.

Director for the KallaManie Benefit Foundation, Jeffrey du Preez, said that the exceptional talents of top Eastern Province and SA Golf junior golfers, Devon Valentine and Johndre Ludick will also be on display on the day.

“In addition to lots of prizes up for grabs for the winners in all three categories (golfers, non-golfers, and juniors), golfers also stand a chance to win R100 000 for the first hole-in-one, courtesy of Succession Financial Planning.

Du Preez said,

We are aware that the total project costs will exceed any potential income generated by the golf day. Therefore, we are appealing to businesses and individuals to consider contributing (in cash or kind) towards this worthy cause.
