I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world, John 16:33 (NIV).

This year 27 April marked 30 years since the first democratic elections in South Africa.

I follow reports on current affairs with an avid interest, but a day spent listening only to the news may easily birth stress-related ailments, especially in the faint-hearted.

Our Lord, Jesus Christ, wanted to save his followers some of these worldly agonies. He explained that his reason for telling his disciples “these things” was so that they will be without trouble in their minds and in their hearts. He further stresses that the peace that they may experience emanates from their relationship with him. In John 14:27 he had already told them that he gives them his peace, which he does not give as the world gives. This merely means that there is a special type of peace that is found only in Christ.

In this world there is trouble. The good news is Christ has won already. When we choose to abide in him, we become partakers of this victory.

We listen to campaign messages passed by different political parties’ representatives. As we listen, we inwardly pray that they fulfil every good promise. Many a time we forget where to put our hope. Jesus said “do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid”.

Abide in Christ and let his words remain in you, then ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. Become the generation that says: “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God!”)Grace Mufara is an overseer of the Covenant Apostolic Church in Virginia.
