Schools in the Western Cape have recently been equipped with state-of- the-art science centres.
Among these are Diazville High School, Diazville Primary School and Louwville High School.
This became a reality due to the partnership between the Advancing Knowledge Non-Profit Company, Garden Cities, Archway Foundation and the Western Cape Education Department, which has continued with a process to improve the infrastructure in which Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics subjects are taught, by constructing modern science laboratories, called Science Teaching and Learning Centres.
Paul Haricombe, principal of Diazville High School, said the science centre will expose his learners to the interesting world of physics and natural science.
“It will also unlock knowledge they can apply in science,” he said.
Emile Petrus, principal of Louwville High School, said his school would be forever grateful for the generous donation.
“We are focused on our vision to cultivate productive citizens,” he said.
Diazville Primary Principal Lee-Ann Davids-Hartzenberg said her school was also very grateful for being a beneficiary of this initiative.
With the school involved in many science projects and competitions she believes the science centre will be of great help to the learners and create a science culture at the school.
