In a bid to foster educational development within its community, the Breede Valley Municipality has announced the launch of the Mayoral Bursary Fund, inviting deserving students to apply for financial support. The initiative aims to contribute to the overall cost of students’ studies, aligning with the municipality’s vision of creating “a unique and caring valley of excellent service delivery, opportunities, and growth.”
Applicants must be residents within the jurisdiction of the Breede Valley Municipality, encompassing areas such as Rawsonville, Worcester, De Doorns, and Touwsrivier. It is essential for candidates to endorse and support the municipality’s vision, emphasising the importance of community engagement.
The Mayoral Bursary Fund is in line with the Breede Valley Municipality’s Integrated Development Plan (IDP), demonstrating a commitment to addressing the development of human resources, with a specific focus on the youth. Notably, students already benefiting from NSFAS (National Student Financial Aid Scheme) bursaries are ineligible to apply for this fund.
To prioritise fields relevant to local government the municipality has outlined that study programmes related to this sector will receive preferential consideration during the selection process. This strategic emphasis aligns with the municipality’s long-term goals and objectives.
Interested candidates can access the prescribed application form on the Breede Valley Municipality’s website or obtain it from municipal offices and libraries in Rawsonville, Worcester, De Doorns, and Touwsrivier.
While the Mayoral Bursary Fund aims to alleviate some financial burden for students, it’s important to note that the fund will not cover all costs associated with a year of study. Specifically it is designed to assist with registration fees, underscoring the municipality’s commitment to making education accessible to a broader range of students.
Completed application forms can be submitted by post to The Manager: Human Resources, Private Bag X3046, Worcester 6849, or hand-delivered to the HR office at 53B Baring Street, Worcester. For inquiries and further information, prospective applicants can contact Sharyka Uys on 023 348 4962.
Prospective applicants are reminded that the closing date for submissions is 1 December at 14:00. No late applications will be considered, emphasising the municipality’s commitment to a fair and transparent selection process. This initiative stands as a commendable effort by the Breede Valley Municipality to invest in the education and future of its local youth, reflecting a proactive approach to community development.
