Details: A damning report into allegations of abuse at KwaSizabantu Mission - written by a panel of 14 nationally and internationally recognised Christian leaders 20 years ago - concluded that the controversial church was dangerously close to "cult-like behaviour", indicating recently exposed claims of human rights abuses could have been prevented if more was done by the mission's leadership years ago.
What members said: The panel's findings followed a three-day sitting in which former members of the mission spoke of serious abuse, psychological manipulation and sexual assault at the mission.
The mission: Speaking to News24, Ruth Combrink, a leader at the mission, said the allegations were addressed at the time and those who wanted reconciliation had met with the mission's leadership. She added that the mission took recent reports, detailed in a News24 exposé, seriously and expressed "heartfelt sympathy".
