City Power took over load shedding operations from Eskom last week. It's done away with the familiar, tried and tested, old designated blocks and leaving some residents literally in the dark about which block they are now in, writes Vanessa Banton. 

It was great not having load shedding during the day last week. Well, at least until 16:00. For one, it makes the morning commute to work more bearable. There’s nothing as frustrating as taking an hour to get to work because the lights along the way are down because of load shedding.

It was all going along swimmingly, for a bit. But load shedding appears to have returned – with a vengeance - along with the Springboks from France. Perhaps the Springboks should have stayed on.
