President Cyril Ramaphosa has signed into law the Electoral Matters Amendment Bill, abolishing a cap on donations to political parties and the criteria for the disclosure of such funding.
According to the Presidency, the Bill amends the Political Party Funding Act of 2018 to provide for the regulation of the private and public funding of independent candidates and independent representatives.
Despite months of parliamentary debates and pleas from opposition parties for the Bill not to be assented to, Ramaphosa put pen to paper.
