South Africa's spooks and minister responsible for state security refuse to loosen their grip on the body supposed to ensure that intelligence services act within the bounds of the Constitution and law and the independence it requires to fulfil this function.
The State Security Agency (SSA) on Thursday responded to the submissions that the ad hoc committee processing the General Intelligence Laws Amendment Bill (GILAB) received.
As Minister in the Presidency responsible for state security, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, said at the start of the meeting, GILAB intends to implement the recommendations of the High Level Review Panel on the State Security Agency, which former minister Sydney Mufamadi chaired.
