Between 30 000 and 50 000 taxis are expected on the country's busiest routes in the lead-up to the Easter long weekend as many make pilgrimages to celebrate the religious holiday.
SA National Taxi Council (Santaco) national spokesperson Rebecca Phala said the busiest routes were likely to be the N1 highway towards Limpopo, the N3 towards Durban, and the N4 towards Mozambique.
"On the above routes, there are between 30 000 and 50 000 taxis per day, especially during busy periods like the Easter long weekend," she said.
