Traffic authorities are gearing up for busy roads over the long weekend this Easter, and they will be targeting reckless drivers and those driving under the influence of alcohol in a bid to bring down road fatalities.
Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMI) spokesperson Simon Zwane said the organisation had three focus areas: collisions with pedestrians, vehicles overturning, and hit-and-run incidents.
"They contribute to the highest number of fatalities. These crashes are influenced by alcohol use, speeding and roadworthiness of vehicles. Therefore, law enforcement will focus on these factors," he said.
