A shooting at a cherry farm in Ficksburg, Free State, which left a boy, 11, dead, has claimed another life.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Mahlomola Kareli said a 19-year-old woman, who was injured in the attack, died in hospital on Monday night.

Kareli said the police continued to work around the clock to trace the assailants.

On Tuesday, News24 reported that an 11-year-old boy was declared dead at the farm after unknown attackers opened fire on dwellers in two houses "without uttering a word to the occupants".

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring said two armed men arrived at the farm on Sunday night, around 21:50.

"The suspects fled the scene on foot and got into an unknown car parked on the side of the R26 road, near the farmstead," said Mophiring.

Emergency personnel declared the 11-year-old dead at the scene.
