Malema's Brackenfell comments not hate speech, political science professor testifies

EFF leader Julius Malema's comments about tracking down and dealing with a white man he accused of assaulting party members did not constitute hate speech, the Equality Court in Cape Town heard on Thursday.

University of Johannesburg political science professor Steven Friedman was giving evidence in Dante van Wyk's application against Malema in which he is seeking a finding that Malema's comments about him amount to hate speech and an order that Malema must not harm him.

He is also seeking R1 million.
