The national Health Department said it would have to dispose of vaccines worth R3 billion bought during the Covid-19 pandemic.
During a media briefing on Thursday, Health Minister Joe Phaahla acknowledged the government paid “quite a lot” for the vaccines because they “came in at a time when it was quite expensive”.
Phaahla said some vaccines were expiring by the end of this year.
