A 45-year-old suspect, who allegedly hijacked a truck carrying soya, was arrested in Standerton on Thursday after he overturned the stolen truck while trying to flee from the police.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, said the legitimate truck driver was heading towards Standerton, when he noticed a white sedan vehicle in front of him with three male occupants, driving at a slower pace, and ultimately forcing the truck to also slow down.
Two of the men, who appeared to have been armed, then forced their way into the truck and held the driver hostage before binding his hands and feet and covering his head.
