More than 93 000 Western Cape Grade 1s stepped inside the classroom to start their big school journey on Wednesday.

They were among the roughly 1.2 million pupils kicking off their 2024 school year in the province.

Premier Alan Winde and Education MEC David Maynier joined 55 Grade Rs and 74 Grade 1s at Westcott Primary School in Cape Town to mark the occasion.
