Striking a healthy balance between schoolwork and music and ensuring one enjoys every moment was the secret for Julian Kuni from St John's College in Johannesburg, who achieved an average of 96% in the 2023 Independent Examinations Board (IEB) matric exams.

The IEB results were released at midnight on Wednesday, revealing a 98.46% matric pass rate.

Kuni, who has been listed as the school's top achiever, attained 10 distinctions in Afrikaans first additional language, English home language, French second additional language, German second additional language, Life Orientation, Maths, Music, Physical sciences, Further studies mathematics and Further studies physics.
