"As the members searched the premises, they could smell a very strong smell of dagga. Upon searching the premises for the suspects who were involved in the truck hijacking, they discovered two dagga plantations and a large amount of dagga that had been grown," said police spokesperson, Captain Frederick van Wyk.

A 50-year-old man was arrested on charges of cultivating dagga.

The officers then searched a house on the property which the man claimed was owned by someone else.

Van Wyk said: "As the members entered the house, they noticed pictures of the male suspect on the walls and found that the house belonged to him."

The man's 44-year-old wife was also arrested.

The couple are expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court soon.
