Police are warning dagga traders that they will not tolerate any selling of drugs during the festive season.
This warning comes after Maluti police confiscated dagga at Maritseng in Ramohlakoana last Friday.
Police spokesperson Captain Raphael Motloung said they were on patrol when they received information about a person who was selling dagga.
“Police entered the yard and no one responded, but it was clear that somebody was inside. We peeped through the window and found a man hiding something, which was later discovered to be dagga,” said Motloung.
He said eventually the owner of the house opened the door and police began searching each room. Dagga was found in the bedroom and inside a deep freezer.
“We also found 201 buckets of mussels and when we questioned the owner of the house, he told us he got them at Port St John’s from people who had left them on the road. He claimed that he bought the dagga from Port St John’s as well,” said Motloung.
He said an amount of R4 200, which was believed to be the profits from the illegal sale of dagga and mussels, was confiscated.
Motloung said the two suspects were arrested and detained at Maluti Police Station. They were charged with illegal possession of mussels and dealing in dagga.
