WATCH | Two wounded in shootout during cash-in-transit robbery

accreditation

Two security guards were wounded in a cash-in-transit heist on Saturday morning at the Kit Kat Plaza in Pretoria West.

One of the guards left Kit Kat Cash and Carry with an undisclosed amount of money when a group of armed robbers closed in on the cash van. The driver tried to drive the van forward but was pulled out of the front seat. A shootout ensued.

National police spokesperson Colonel Brenda Muridili told News24 both guards were injured during the attack.

"The crew was attacked by unknown armed men who fired shots at them. Two of the guards were injured, one in the leg and the other in the head," Muridili explained.

"Both of the guards were taken to hospital," she added.

There have been a spate of cash-in-transit heists since the beginning of the year. Muridili appealed to anyone with information to contact police.
