South African Airways' (SAA) former head of financial risk management, Cynthia Stimpel, is expected to continue testifying at the judicial commission of inquiry into state capture.

Stimpel was sworn in on Thursday and testified that she had objected to SAA's decision to award BnP Capital a contract to advise the airline on a debt consolidation loan, in a process which contributed to her suspension in July 2016, along with misconduct allegations.

She told the inquiry that hiring the firm amounted to letting it conduct work which had already been done by SAA's treasury department.

The commission, chaired by Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo, is also expected to hear aviation-related testimony on Friday from Director of Grissag AG, Pieter van der Merwe.
