Police have arrested a man for allegedly wielding a panga at a crowd during an anti-drug protest in Hillbrow on Saturday afternoon.

In a video that emerged online, a man could be seen wielding a weapon before police officers approached him. He then dropped it on the pavement.

The man appeared to resist arrest as three officers moved him towards their van. But, after a brief struggle, police handcuffed him.

Hillbrow police station spokesperson Sergeant Mduduzi Zondo said the arrested man has been charged with possession of a dangerous weapon and is expected to appear in the Hillbrow Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
