Markus Jooste, the former head of the embattled retailer Steinhoff, fielded questions from MPs in Parliament on the conglomerate's governance and share price collapse.

It was the first time Jooste had been seen in public since December 6, 2017, when his resignation was announced and the company's stock price plummeted – wiping an estimated R200bn off Steinhoff's market value.
